Bairns overcome Warriors in Stirlingshire Cup

Jordan White nods in the opener

Jordan White nods in the opener

Jordan White hit a double and Graham Bowman saved a penalty as Falkirk progressed past Stenhousemuir into the Stirlingshire Cup final.

The holders had a series of chances before taking a deserved lead on the 25th minute, with a well-worked move down the right hand side.

Liam Rowan drove to the by-line and chipped the ball across for White to nod home.

Stenhousemuir’s best chance was through former Bairn Andy Rodgers when he pounced on a slack ball from Tyler Fulton but his shot from the edge of the area flew wide of the post.

Falkirk extended their lead in the 41st minute. Great feet from Conor McGrandles got him past his man to square the ball along the goal-line and handed White a tap-in.

Just before the interval a great shot by Luke Leahy pulled out the best of Dean Shaw in the Stenhousemuir goal as the ball was heading for the top corner.

In the 51st minute the Warriors got a penalty for handball by Liam Rowan. Darren Smith’s effort was held by Graham Bowman low to his left and the taker was immediately replaced by Kieran Anderson.

A mix-up in the Falkirk defence between Liam Dick and Bowman almost allowed the ball run through into goal but Ryan McGeever cleared the danger.

The big defender then ensured the victory for the Bairns following a great free-kick from Kyle Turnbull stroked in at the back post.
