FORMER Celtic and Liverpool defender Laurence Gaughan is on trial with Falkirk as they prepare for this week’s top of the table clash with Ross County.
The 22-year-old defender has been capped for the Republic of Ireland at under-19 level and is at the Stirling Uni training base this week, and next, in a bid to earn a deal with Steven Pressley’s side.
Gaughan was with Oxford United for the second half of last season, after a stint in America.
The 6’2” centre half started his career with Sheffield United but was snapped up by Liverpool aged 15, where he played beside former Bairn Ryan Flynn, before Celtic secured his services in 2007.
He left Glasgow in 2009 and recently played with Galway United in the League of Ireland.
Gaughan is a potential replacement for Rhys Bennett whose loan from Bolton is due to expire in January.
