Ron McArthur is the first Falkirk medallist at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The bowling director helped Robert Conway in the final of the visually impaired mixed bowls pairs final at Kelvingrove this morning.

But the team of Ron, Robert, David Thomas and Irene Edgar were edged out by South Africa.

Scotland fell behind but managed to claw the match back to 10-10 but with one end remaining and the score 13-10 in the South Africans’ favour, the home side was edged out and into second place.

In a Commonwealth first, the directors are also classed as athletes at this year’s Games therefore Ron was handed a silver medal.
