Falkirk Rugby club will face a stern pre-season test this year.
Reigning Scottish champions Melrose will hit Sunnyside in August to officially open the club’s Sunnyside pitches.
The new field was put to use from October last year, but as there was no official unveiling the Sunnysiders have waited until this summer to officially mark the occasion.
However, that match will come on August 20 - one week before the opening league match of the season.
Club President Alex McQuade believes that being so close to the season, the Prem One side may take the opportunity to warm-up the squad with a very strong line-up for the friendly.
He told Heraldsport: “Melrose are the current Scottish champions and accepted our invitation. The bad news is, this is the week before the league kicks in so they will field a full strength team.
“However, we intend making a day of it and other activities will be arranged.
“We have also invited Ian McLachlan - President of the SRU, Provost Pat Reid and Sportscotland and we continue to look forward to the new season.”
