MORE than 50 youngsters turned out to meet their international rugby heroes at a Falkirk RFC and Grangemouth RFC camp last week.
The four-day fun event, which spent the first two days at Sunnyside and then moved to Glensburgh, came to a climax when Edinburgh Rugby locks Matt Mustchin and Ben Gissing joined the on-field action before answering a barrage of questions.

It was organised by Falkirk Area Clubs Development Officer Graham Lindsay and Scottish Rugby SVQ community coaches Gary Dempsey, Christian Wallace and Emma Stark, for children aged between six and 14-years-old.

Obstacle courses, kicking practice and rugby rounders were the order of the day as well as the more traditional contact and non-contact aspects of training.

Graham said: "The camp went really well all week but it was a big plus having the professional players there.

"They were really good with the kids – playing alongside them, giving them encouragement and pointers.

"It was great to hear the children talking about how they'd tackled and brought down a Scotland player. They were absolutely delighted!"

Graham is confident that he'll now see a few of the new faces back playing regular rugby and Scotland lock Matt Mustchin agreed. "This is a fantastic way for kids to give rugby a go," he said.

"They really got stuck in to me and Ben – it was obvious that they were having a great time and were making lots of new friends. Everyone one of them was running around with a big smile on their face talking about how they were going to join one of the local clubs."
