Students pass Stags test

AFTER their trip to the northern isles one week previously, the Stags returned home to welcome St Andrews University to Glensburgh Park.

The students were determined to maintain the pressure on Orkney at the top of the league and they started strongly, controlling possession and territory in the opening 10 minutes.

Only good defence by the home side kept the scoresheet blank, but the students continued to dominate.

However, the siege was finally lifted after 15 minutes when a scrum won against the head allowed the Stags to break upfield with a strong run by Tony Hayes.

Winger Brian Scott then made a half break but the move came to nothing as Caine McIntyre knocked on. St Andrews hit back with a break of their own by their centre but, again, the Stags defended well.
