FRANDY FISHERY. Favourite fly/lure: kate maclaren, bibio, bibio hopper, sedgehog and sedge muddler – all areas are producing fish. Club returns: Strathclyde Police, 52 fish for 83lb 10oz; Thistle A/C one for 2lb; Midlothian A/A seven for 15lb 3oz, heaviest for the club was a 7lb 8oz rainbow; Phoenix A/C, nine for 10lb 7oz; Bank of Scotland A/C 22 for 40lb 3oz; Seafield A/C 11 for 21lb 6oz; Neptune Game F/C 16 for 32lb 8oz and returned a further nine.

SWANSWATER. Some good catches this week: Derek Fowler and 13-year-old grandson, Brian (Dunipace) shared five for 22lb 15oz including 7lb 3oz rainbow for Brian and 6lb 14oz rainbow for Derek. Earlier in the week young Brian also took two browns for 6lb bigger one at 3lb 6oz. Another youngster catching big fish was 13-year-old Mark Hall (Denny), fishing the small ponds with dad Allan. They shared three for 11lb with Mark taking a 7lb rainbow from the Millpond. Frank Barr (Falkirk), five for 16lb including two browns, bigger at 4lb, two blues and a gold one day and seven blues for 19lb on another visit. Bill Buchanan (Larbert) four for 15lb including two blues, bigger one at 6lb 12oz and a brown; Stuart Hardie (Airth) three for 11lb including 6lb 4oz rainbow, a gold and blue Chris Armstrong (Airth) 6lb rainbow. Many regulars had good results using wet flies just under the surface with the favourites being invicta, bibio, bumble and dunkeld. Other good patterns included buzzers, bloodworm, damsel, spider and sedges.

WELLSFIELD. Two anglers this week caught yellow £50 prize tagged trout, but didn't pay to enter the competition so didn't win the money! One regular angler caught a third tag, paid the entry fee and won the £50 prize money! All three ponds fishing well and many anglers bagging their limits. Fly fishermen found a floating line with a long leader worked the best with goldhead daddies, damsel nymph, cats and buzzers. Bait anglers found rainbow powerbait, worms and maggots worked the best. One double caught by Mr Cairns (Falkirk), 13lb rainbow from the top fly pond in his five for 25lb using lures. Mr Galbraith (Larbert), 10lb rainbow from the bait pond using a mepp spinner in his four for 21lb. Some better catches this week include: Deuchar (Camelon) five for 18lb, best 6lb; Clark (Falkirk) five for 18lb, best 6lb 2oz; Ferguson (Denny) five for 16lb, best 4lb; Russell (Bonnybridge) five for 16lb, best 5lb; McKenzie (Grangemouth) five for 15lb, best 4lb; Smith (Bathgate) four for 12lb; Brannan (Bonnybridge), four for 10lb 8oz; McDuff (Bonnybridge) four for 10lb; Marshall (Falkirk) three for 9lb; Horn (Stenhousemuir) three for 8lb; Tucker (Dennyloanhead) two for 7lb.

BOWDEN SPRINGS FISHERY. Some settled weather this past week encouraged anglers out in force with some spectacular results. Some good catches on bait loch: Alan Rennie (Westquarter), 6lb 9oz rainbow on power bait; Mr Reid (Grangemouth) one for 4lb 10oz; Mr Johnston (Maddiston) rainbows for 8lb 14oz, best being 6lb 14oz on yellow power bait; Tommy Lee (Falkirk) six rainbows for 12lb 8oz on green power bait. On the fly loch fish showing well in mornings and late afternoon to early evening with sedge imitations giving best results. Mr Dodds (Grangemouth) 5lb 7oz trout on a white buzzer and Mr Wellcoat (Polmont), rainbows for 7lb 8oz. Best methods floating or midge tip lines with small sedge hoggs and buzzer imitations with orange fritz being the pick of the lures. The fly loch is packed with stickle back fry and there should be some cracking back end sport with fry imitations.

REDDING FC 2
CALIFORNIA 2

REDDING began this match full of optimism after a gruelling pre-season schedule. However, a well drilled and organised California side gave them a stern test in the opening 25 minutes with only the cat-like brilliance of debutant Kevin Newby keeping them at bay. Redding slowly grew in confidence, though, and startled their more illustrious opponents with several incisive passing movements. But the natural order was restored with California scoring two-quick fire goals just before half-time.
Redding came out after the interval a different team and the recent squad's away day at Glenbervie appeared to pay off. An improved second-half performance resulted in two penalties which were dutifully dispatched by the evergreen Rab McDougall. This, combined with the highest amount of amount of offside decisions recorded in a football game (many of them correct), gave Redding their first league point in over 19 months.
Black Bull MOM: Robert 'Peter Pan' McDougall

STEINS THISTLE 3
DRUMCHAPEL UNITED 3

STEINS faced current Scottish Amateur Cup holders and league leaders Drumchapel United but manager Derek Thompson sent his side out with a game plan and it paid off in the first half. They got off to a great start when Davie Weir, playing his first game in almost two years after recovering from a serious knee injury, sent Fleming clear before he clipped the ball over the advancing keeper. Drumchapel twice hit the bar twice but Steins held on until half-time.
After the interval Drumchapel come out flying and their pressure paid off when Kevin Anderson lost possession and let the striker in to make it level. Drumchapel then went ahead after some sloppy defending by the home side, and made it 3-1 with a beautifully struck free-kick 20 yards out. However, John Anderson rounded the keeper to slot home and Kenny Ferguson equalised after the keeper fumbled a Weir free-kick. Muir found himself unmarked at the back post in the dying minutes but somehow managed to shoot wide.
Masonic Arms MOM: Chris Fleming

WESTFIELD AMS 3
DRUMPELLIER THISTLE 0

Stirling and District First Division
WESTFIELD saw off their Cumbernauld opponents in the opening league game with a convincing win. Drumpellier had a couple of early chances but could not convert them and it was captain James Bennie who opened the scoring 20 minutes in, finishing a lay-off from Christie. Westfield were on top and playing some decent football when former Livingston player Stuart Irvine deservedly got his first of the season with a fine finish after some good build-up play.
Irvine then secured the points early in the second half – and completed his brace – after finishing past the rooted keeper. With the introduction of Joe Clark on the right wing, Drumpellier were once again on the back foot. However, their best chances were gifted to them by an out-of-sorts Andrew Spark – two short back passes played the Drumpellier striker clean through. Poor finishing meant Westfield would end up with a clean sheet, though.
Pennies Bar MOM: Ross Young

Winning numbers this week are 4, 7 and 19, with one winner, Susan McFarlane, Cumbernauld. Jackpot now stands at £250 for week 5.

FALKIRK 7
SCOTLAND OVER 50S 2

FALKIRK got their pre-season friendlies underway with a training match against a Scottish Vets side preparing for the Home Nations International in Wales this weekend. With Chris Taylor and Arthur Robertson turning out for Scotland, there was a competitive edge. Falkirk, meanwhile, included Andrew Kay and Jamie Stokoe as guests, who were preparing for the over-40s competition in Wales. Falkirk got off to a flying start when Chris Anderson opened the scoring after five minutes, and the lead was doubled shortly after when Michael Watson finished a flowing move. Ex-MIM star Andrew Kay scored the third before, at the start of the second period, Scotland pulled one back from a penalty corner. Kay converted one of his own, though, and Iain Fraser netted to increase Falkirk's lead. A second penalty corner goal at the end of the period was as close as Scotland came to getting back into the game as the third period was dominated by the Falkirk midfield. Anderson claimed his second before, in the final minute, Gordon Anderson was brought down by the keeper to allow Stafford Dickson to convert the resulting penalty . Falkirk have representation in both the over 40s and 50s sides competing in Swansea this weekend, and wish both teams the best of luck.
Annual subscriptions for season 2007/08 are due now, and have remained at 2006/07 prices. Please check the club website for details, or contact your captain or club treasurer. THERE was some close and fast racing at the Cowdenbeath Racewall last Saturday night with Jim Harris winning the formula II final and Frankie Cunningham claiming the saloons. However, two drivers – Gregor Turner and Stuart Drobinski – left the stadium a bit unhappy after their jokers were drawn out by the final winners which resulted in their points tally being halved! Meanwhile, plenty of wrecking in the bangers saw Andy Webster's car written off and the head-to-head shunts in the Demolition Derby final resulted in Danny Thompson coming out on top.
Amongst the formula II drivers were Chris Burgoyne (Airth), Andy Nelson (Grangemouth) and Alex Hamilton (Denny). There were 22 at the track, resulting in their format being an all-in one with the drivers racing in the final round of the Saturday Night Thunder Series. The opening heat saw John Fortune win from Lee McGill and Garry Sime, with Hamilton eighth. Fortune's car broke a half shaft in heat two and he spun but the other drivers managed to miss his stricken car. In the end it was Jim Harris who took the chequer from McGill and Burgoyne, with Hamilton in ninth. Blair Anderson led the final for the opening two laps before McGill charged through into the lead, while Stevie Nicol was soon challenging for second. Harris was quickly working his way through the field with Fortune leading the star drivers' chase through the field. And, with three laps to run, Harris slipped through into the lead and eventually won from McGill, Fortune and Burgoyne. Steve MacLachlan won the Grand National from Fortune, Robbie Dawson and Burgoyne, with Harris ending up in ninth.
A good turn-out of saloon drivers included Russell Dunn (Bo'ness) and new world champion Steve Webster was also on the grid along with brother Shaun, while Paul Tuppen was another welcome visitor. Willie Mitchell made his saloon debut among 22 drivers in action. The opening heat went to James Strath who headed home Stuart Shevill Jnr and Stuart Drobinski. However, there was a big shunt with Mi
