STENHOUSEMUIR Cricket Club began their SNCL Division One programme with a heavy defeat at Arbroath.
The home side piled up 292 for nine on Saturday and 'Muir struggled to 158 all out.

With Amir Shahzad now playing in the Huddersfield League and Glenn Rogers unavailable, the bowling was a bit thin. However, things did not look too bad with Arbroa
th on 61 for four.

But a partnership of 133 between Kevin Ritchie, who made 109, and Mike Petrie on 50 put the game beyond Stenhousemuir and the total was not going to be beaten.

Iain McDonald took three wickets, Craig Thyssen two and Tom Ferrier one but the tidiest bowling came from Jonathan Bowes who claimed one for 26 off his 10 overs.

'Muir were never up with the scoring rate, although Ferrier made 58 and Thyssen 25, but there was some encouragement from 16-year-old Gary
Halcrow who finished with 12 not out.

Stenhousemuir are now away to Freuchie on Sunday.

Details:
Arbroath 292 for 9 (I. McDonald 3 for 66; C. Thyssen 2 for 54) 10 points
Stenhousemuir 158 for 8 (T. S. Ferrier 58; C. Thyssen 25) 0 points

THE 2nd XI league match on Saturday was called off because of a waterlogged pitch, as was the President's Cup match with Westquarter the following day (now rescheduled for Sunday, May 25).
However, this Sunday, the 2nd XI will be hoping for a brighter forecast in order to play their home match with Dunnikier.
