KILSYTH Rangers' 1-1 draw with Rob Roy Kirkintilloch was enough to see them win the section and a place in the quarter-finals, but that left Derek Barron's men wondering what might have been.
In the opening game of the season an injury time equaliser earned Kilsyth a 1-1 draw against Dunipace.
Had that not gone in then it would have been the Westfield men in the last eight after they bounced back from their disappointing 4-0 defeat
at the hands of Rob Roy with this impressive victory.
Dunipace were without striker Keiron McIlduff but it took only nine minutes for new boy Martin Wright to fire them into the lead with a low shot from 15 yards.
Following that early boost Pace continued to dominate but didn't add to their tally until the hour mark when Barry Rodger got on the end of Chris Cairney's cross to head home from 12 yards.
Five minutes later Cumbernauld pulled one back when Brown weaved his way past three defenders before beating keeper Gary Strachan hands down
with a terrific left foot drive from 16 yards.
In the 74th minute, however, any hopes of a Cumbernauld fight back were dismissed when the luckless Dearie turned the ball into his own net.
In the 85th minute Paul Donnelly completed the scoring when he broke in from the left to prod the ball home.
This Saturday sees Dunipace begin their league campaign when they are away to Newmains in Stagecoach Central Division Two.
Boss Derek Barron has doubts over Keiron McIlduff, John McPhail and Martin Wright, who took a knock in last week's game. Definitely out are Gary McMillan, Paul O'Brien and Warner Devlin.
