CAMELON connections will still be wondering how they could dominate a game so much and still end up losing.

Kicking down the New Dundas Park slope, they were in control from the off and a great stop by Mike Atay in the first minute denied Blair Batchelor from scoring.

Chris Jeffrey was next to threaten for the Mariners with a low shot that went inches
wide but, midway through the first half, they did finally take a deserved lead.

However, it was still from a highly debatable penalty after Batchelor was tackled by Ally Reid just inside the box.

It seemed a harsh decision against the home defender but Steve Kiczynski wasn't complaining and stepped up to lash the ball home.

With Bonnyrigg failing to mount any real threat on JC Hutchison's goal, everything was going to plan.

But five minutes before the break Camelon were reduced to 10 men when Mark Gillespie was red carded for a bad tackle on David Burrell.

That made him the SIXTH Camelon player to be sent off this season and while some of them might have been debatable this one certainly wasn't.

His dismissal meant manager Greig Denham had to reshuffle his pack and he sacrificed Jeffrey for midfielder Jamie Shirra.

Despite being down to 10 men, though, Camelon began the second half on the attack and Stuart Cringeon headed an Andy Dick cross just wide.

Yet Bonnyrigg were back on level terms in the 73rd minute.

Dick was caught in possession in midfield and the ball was swung wide to Paddy Flannery whose cross was headed home by Kevin Bracks.

Camelon then passed up a great chance to regain the lead when Atay dropped Dick's corner kick, but Kiczynski failed to cash in and fired over from eight yards.

The Mariners went close again when Batchelor shot inches wide from 16 yards and, as the game stretched into injury time, it looked as if the spoils would be shared.

However, Camelon were to be hit by a double whammy. In the 91st minute a quick breakaway ended with substitute Charlie Brigain forcing home a Flannery cross from close range.

Then, one minute later, Flannery himself completed the scoring when he raced clear to fire low into the net.

HOLDERS Camelon Juniors begin their defence of the East of Scotland Cup when they travel to take on Ballingry Rovers in a first round tie at Ore Park this Saturday. Boss Greig Denham will be without the suspended Mark Gillespie but Euan Graham should be available after missing last week's game due to work commitments.
The game will be played to a finish with a penalty decider if required after 90 minutes. Kick off is at 1.45 p.m. and the bus leaves the social club at 11.45 a.m.

l CAMELON keeper JC Hutchison played the whole game for Junior Scotland at Beechwood Park last Sunday. The national side beat Auchinleck Talbot 3-0 in the testimonial match for former Talbot keeper Stuart McIntosh.
All the goals arrived in the second half, with Pollok players Stuart Cruickshank and Bryan Dingwall netting before former Camelon player Jimmy Lister, now with Bathgate, completed the scoring.
