STENHOUSEMUIR made it five league wins in a row last Saturday with an excellent victory away at Stirling County.
The win was built upon another fine performance by pro Craig Thyssen, who scored his third century in one month, along with three wickets.

Batting first, 'Muir lost both openers quickly – Tom Ferrier caught by Christie off Khan for four and Sanjay
Rakshit caught by Edwards off Carswell for eight.

But once again, from a precarious position, a big partnership of 122 between Thyssen and Glenn Rogers put 'Muir in a dominant position.

Rogers was the first to go, lbw to Stirling skipper Phil Rees for 30. Jeewan Ramroop joined Thyssen and they added 40 before Thyssen was out for exactly 100, caught by Carswell off Edwards.

His innings included three sixes and nine fours.

Ramroop went on to make 36 before being bowled by Afees and 11 from Pete Moses and 13 not out took the total to 227 for six.

In reply, Stirling lost Nafees – caught by Thyssen off Jonathan Bowes for 13 with 22 on the board.

A good partnership between Jon Taylor and Ian McGhee gave the County hope, but the loss of four wickets in five overs reduced them from 79 for one to 86 for five.

Edwards and Anderson added 48 for the sixth wicket, but Stirling were well behind the asking rate. Anderson was run out for 23 and Ramroop picked up the wickets of Khan and Miller. Edwards was the last man stumped by Sanjay Rakshit to leave Stirling 41 runs adrift at 186 for 9.

However, the 'Muir failed to carry their league form into the cup – albeit against Premier opposition. First they went down to Carlton in the Masterton Trophy at Grange Loan and then lost Ferguslie in the second round of the Scottish Cup at the Tryst.

On Saturday, Stenhousemuir are at home to Arbroath United in a match sponsored by Fairley Homes.

On Friday night, Falkirk F.C. youth development staff, led by Tom Elliot, take on a Stenhousemuir social XI at the Tryst and it promises to be an enjoyable evening.

Stenhousemuir 227 for six (C. Thyssen 100; J. Ramroop 36) 10 pts
Stirling County 186 for nine (C. Thyssen three for 27; J. Ramroop three for 43) two pts
Carlton 133 for seven (R. Angus three for 15)
Stenhousemuir 89 for seven (G.E. Gardner 24)
Ferguslie 249 for seven (J. Ramroop three for 22; C. Thyssen two for 46)
Stenhousemuir 135 (J. Ramroop 21)

DESPITE a defiant last stand, Westquarter went down to defeat against Boroughmuir on Saturday.

An unlikely, but superb innings from Colin Fox against his former club saw him reach his first 50 with a 67, including 15 off his first over.

But the damage had been done earlier in the match and his efforts were ultimately in vain, as the Edinburgh side scored a 37-run victory.

On winning the toss, Westquarter elected to field first on a damp wicket.

Zeeshan Ikram and Hamad Mumtaz got off to a rocky start with the ball, but the away side made the breakthrough in the third over when Ikram took the wickets of Lister and McGrath.

This didn't slow down the run rate though, as Boroughmuir continued to find the boundary and coasted to 52, before Hutchinson was bowled by Mumtaz in the tenth over.

However, the pairing of Ahmed and Binnie continued to punish some wayward bowling and it took the return of Ikram to get the breakthrough in the 33rd over, with the score on 133.

When Stuart Fox ran out Binnie with a direct hit, things were starting to swing in the favour of the visitors – but the Boroughmuir number eight, Kodandaram, had other ideas.

He smashed the bowling to all areas of the ground, adding 46 to the total, and even with Shoeb Farooqui taking quick wickets in the final overs, Boroughmuir closed on 237.

A reshuffled batting order saw Mumtaz and Farooqui open the innings for Westquarter, but the new tactic didn't work for long, with Farooqui getting caught in the third over with only 10 on the board.

Peter Hamilton joined Mumtaz and he once again played an important innings for the club, recording a 50 partnership before Mumtaz was stumped from the bowling of Sachdeva. Hamilton was soon to follow, getting caught in the deep in an attempt to take the attack to Boroughmuir.

With a weakened middle order Westquarter were showing little resistance and wickets continued to fall to leave them on 116 for seven – until Fox made his stand.

But with the score at 205 in the 49th over and a massive 33 still needed, his luck ran out when he edged behind to Sachdeva to end the game.

On Saturday Westquarter will be hosting Falkland 2nd XI, 1 p.m. start.

Boroughmuir – 237 all out
(M. Kodandaram 46, R. Ahmed 42, Z. Ikram three-40)
Westquarter & Redding – 205 all out
(C. Fox 67, H. Mumtaz 38, M. Sachdeva 4-43)
