Falkirk eye seventh spot

FALKIRK are back in the driving seat to end the SPL season in seventh place.
The Bairns easily saw off Inverness Caley Thistle with a 2-1 victory during their last home game of the season.
Hearts' defeat to Kilmarnock at Tynecastle, meanwhile, meant the Bairns leapfrogged the Edinburgh side in the standings and have a one point advantage with a single fixture remaining.
So Falkirk now head to Rugby Park this weekend to take on Killie themselves, knowing a win will secure back-to-back seventh place finishes.
And captain Darren Barr is well aware of what that would mean to his club.
"Our aim is to finish seventh so we have to stay focussed for this weekend" he said.
"Some people might be in holiday mode but we are not – it is extra money for the club if we finish as high up the table as possible.
"It was obviously so disappointing to miss out on the top-six spot against Aberdeen, although we were unlucky to do that.
"Yet at one stage we could have finished 10th, which is scary, so the past two wins have been great and seventh spot would be a decent result in the end."
Barr was one of EIGHT players in manager John Hughes' starting line-up against Caley aged 22 or under.
One of the others, Michael Higdon (23), opened their account by slamming Pedro Moutinho's corner into the net after 28 minutes.
The big striker had already gone close while Moutinho and Chris Mitchell threatened.
Barry Wilson missed a sitter at the other end and Shane Supple produced an acrobatic save from Don Cowie's effort.
However, Carl Finnigan bagged his second goal in as many games after the break to effectively put the result to bed – latching onto a Moutinho through ball and thrashing it high past Michael Fraser.
But that was only after Rory McAllister somehow missed the target with his header from just six yards out and Roy McBain hit the side netting with a thunderous drive.
The Highland side did snatch a barely deserved consolation in injury time, however.
Barry Wilson raced into the box but was stopped in his tracks by Tam Scobbie's illegal challenge.
Wilson himself stepped up to score from the resultant penalty, sending Supple the wrong way and dispatching the ball into the bottom left corner.
But, by then, Falkirk were already in cruise control.
"I was pleased with the victory and the manner in which we got it," said Hughes afterwards.
"Hopefully we can now get another win and take that seventh spot."
