HE'S fast becoming somewhat of a 'supersub', but Lee Bullen doesn't think his gaffer sees it quite that way.
Since being drafted back into Falkirk's first team squad five weeks ago due to the manager's growing injury list, the 38-year-old has demonstrated a side of his game few have witnessed before.
Better described in more recent seasons as a central d
efender, Bullen had resigned himself to focusing on coaching the academy under-19s and reserves, and getting an occasional game with the second string side.
However, ever since Eddie May re-called him into his senior squad he's been nothing but a revelation – after reverting to the position in which he started his professional career.
Taking to the field for the final 20 minutes, Bullen debuted as a striker for Falkirk in the 3-3 draw with Celtic and found the net against Hamilton one week later, helping the Bairns to their first, and only, league win of the current season.
And he's since terrorised the Hibs and Rangers' defences, and played no small part in last weekend's 1-1 draw with St Mirren.
Despite a forced hand, it still seems to have been a masterstroke by May – yet Bullen has another theory.
He told Heraldsport: "I reckon Eddie just thinks, 'right, we'll chuck the headless chicken on now and try to ruffle the opposition's feathers up a bit!'.
"Either way, it seems to be working to some extent. The idea is for me to run about daft and create space for the likes of Pedro Moutinho and the others."
