SCOTT ARFIELD helped Scotland maintain their hopes of qualifying for the UEFA European U21 Championships.
The Falkirk midfielder scored the opening goal against Lithuania on Wednesday night as the Scots went on to record a 3-0 victory.
Just five minutes in, Charlie Mulgrew's cross beat keeper Giedrius Frlauskis, the ball crashed off the bar and 19-year-old Arfield nodded home.
Cardiff City striker Ross McCormack doubled the tally in the 39th minute with the pick of the goals, juggling the ball 10 yards out before hooking it into the net.
And Kevin McDonald made the points safe in the Group 6 clash with a third on the hour mark.
The Burnley player latched onto a poor punched clearance from the keeper and toe-poked home.
Afrield's Falkirk team-mate Chris Mitchell was an unused substitute in the match but Scotland remain on track to qualify for the European Championships in Sweden next year.
Group leaders Finland, on 15 points, are in pole position after six matches to qualify outright but Scotland (13 points) can put themselves in the frame by finishing as one of the four best second-placed teams.
They will, however, have to beat Slovenia and Denmark at the start of next month.
Meanwhile, Darren Barr has become the first Falkirk player to be capped for the full Scotland team since John White almost 50 years ago.
The Bairns skipper was brought on as a substitute in the second half of the challenge match against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park on Wednesday.
Back on May 6, 1959, White scored a first-minute goal on his debut against West Germany as the national side went on to win 3-2.
And Barr almost repeated the feat this week when, in the closing stages of the friendly encounter, Barry Robson whipped in a conner and the 23-year-old, at the near post, stopped low to head goalward.
However, Northern Ireland keeper Maik Taylor denied Barr a dream start by gathering the ball in his hands.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men with 34 minutes remaining but the game still ended goal-less.
Rangers minder Allan McGregor had to produce a brilliant penalty kick save, though, in the 59th minute from David Healy to keep the score intact.
As a result, George Burley is still looking for his first win since taking over the reins as Scotland boss six months ago.
