NO one knows more about new Falkirk boss Eddie May than those that worked with him for the last five years at the Academy – and they believe his man-management skills will get the best out of the players in the first-team.
The 41-year-old's period in charge of the youth set-up saw the U19 side perform consistently well in the league and also provide some excellent cup runs.

He was also credited with bringing the likes of Darren Barr, Scott Arfield and Tam Scobbie through to the first team squad.

And Academy spokesperson Ross Wilson told Heraldsport that his managerial style would see a similar type of result at this level too.

"Having worked with Eddie for about five years I have seen at close hand how successful he has been in terms of his man management of
players", he said.

"If he felt that a player was not performing he would be the first to let him know, but if they were doing well he would always praise them.

"He is always very honest and sincere with players and I think they appreciate that. John Hughes left a great legacy here and I think Eddie is the right person to continue that and maybe even enhance it, and I am sure he will do very well as manager."

Meanwhile, Ross was delighted to announce that three Academy players had signed new deals. U19 starlets Paul Sludden, Calum McLean and Stewart Murdoch have put pen to paper this week on one-year contracts.

"The three players all did very well for the U19s last year, and with the other Academy teams," said Ross.

"Paul had an excellent season and was joint-top scorer in the league, while Craig was playing very well before he suffered a horrific injury against Hamilton, but showed terrific character to come back very strongly from that.

"Stewart Murdoch, meanwhile, has probably been our most consistent performer and we are confident he can progress at the club and play at a high level."

Today (Thursday), the U19 players return from their summer break to start pre-season training at the University of Stirling.
