An expectant mum returned from a trip to the hospital to find her parked van marooned by tarmac on a path outside her home.

Karen Forret (34), of Redding Road, was due to give birth on Monday and attended a scan at Forth Valley Royal Hospital last week with her mum.

But when she came home contract workers for Falkirk Council had replaced the surface of the path outside her house around her van which was parked on the path.

Karen, managing director of Wilkies in Falkirk’s Newmarket Street, said: “I was a bit shocked to start with, I didn’t really know what to think.

“We were told that work would be getting done but weren’t given a specific date or I would have made sure the van wasn’t parked there. I’d been a bit worried in case it caused problems, but they’ve come back to finish it now.”

A spokesman for the council said: “The workers chose to stop work in the vicinity of the car to avoid any potential damage but continued working on the footpath. Works to the footpath were completed once the car had been moved.”
