An elderly woman was seriously injured after being struck by a lorry while crossing a busy road in Bonnybridge.

The incident took place around 1.30 p.m. on Thursday in Wellpark Terrace, near the junction with High Street.

The 88-year-old was hit by a Mercedes lorry and is understood to have been dragged under the vehicle.

Staff from nearby business W.H. Tyres rushed to the scene to help the woman before a medical team arrived. She was then taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital for treatment.

Wellpark Terrace was closed yesterday to traffic while police carried out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the Forth Valley division of Police Scotland by calling 101, and quoting 0077 as a reference number.
