Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has pulled out of tonight’s indy debate at Grangemouth Town Hall.

She had been due to speak at the Yes campaign-organised event and answer questions, but will now be attending tonight’s major television debate between Alec Salmond and Alistair Darling.

The independence referendum question and answer evening in Grangemouth will still go ahead, however, with Scottish cabinet secretary for training, youth and women’s employment Angela Constance stepping in.

Independence campaigners have already held a series of public meetings across the Falkirk area ahead of the big vote on September 18 featuring high profile pro-Yes speakers Dennis Canavan, Allan Bissett, Jim Sillars, Michael Matheson and Tommy Sheridan.

The event starts at 7 p.m. tonight and admission to the hall is free. People are asked to be in their seats by 6.50 p.m.
