A Stenhousemuir slimmer is celebrating after succeeding in losing pounds - and gaining pounds for charity at the same time.

Morag Cantwell has lost five stones, and not only does she feel better about herself, she has also managed to raise a total of £1500 in memory of her brother Tam who died in 2008.

Her success has seen her reach the finals of the Scottish Slimmers ‘Slimmer of the Year’ competition, in the Inspirational category.

Morag (52) said: “I was one of those yo-yo dieters and seemed to spend my life on and off diets, always unsuccessfully. So when I announced my weight loss challenge to raise money for the Beatson in Glasgow, where Tam was so wonderfully treated, all my family and friends were extremely sceptical.

“I had it in my head I would lose five stones by the fifth anniversary of his death, so I joined Scottish Slimmers in May 2012.”

This summer, Morag reached her target and handed over the cheque to the Beatson - having gone from a size 24 to a size 14!

Also reaching the competition final is Jennifer Middlecote of Larbert.

Jennifer (37) is in the ‘Yummy Mummy’ category, having lost 4 stone 12lbs since January 2012 - all while looking after her three children, Annabella (6) and four-year-old twins, Louisa and Alexis.

Full-time mum Jennifer said: “I suffered with gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy and the consultant told me that I was at high risk of age-onset diabetes.

“During my second pregnancy, I managed to reduce my sugar intake and wasn’t so ill with the twins but I knew I had to change my lifestyle.”

Jennifer’s mum Grace also signed up to the classes near her home in the north of Scotland.

Now a size 10, Jennifer’s success has inspired her aunts and uncle to join up too.
