A committed Girlguide leader is on a fundraising mission to travel to Africa to help expand the organisation’s presence.
Emma Guthrie (23), of the 1st Shieldhill Guides group, who is also a trainee solicitor, will lead a team of six young women to The Gambia to train Girlguides as part of the GOLD (Guiding Overseas Linked with Development) project. She will visit the country for three weeks in October and hopes her work will have a lasting effect in Africa.
Emma was part of another GOLD team which did the same type of work in Armenia last year.
She said: “I am honoured to be a part of another GOLD project.
“I know the life-changing benefits Girlguiding has on its members and the community. GOLD is a unique project which has a real impact. I have seen firsthand the lasting benefits these projects have on the communities they work with and GOLD captures what it is all about – breaking down barriers, helping others, building amazing friendships, challenging yourself and having fun.”
