Similar scenes will be taking place across Scotland in all the 32 local authority areas.

Latest figures show 122,457 people in the Falkirk area were eligible to vote with a turnout of 90 per cent anticipated.

Returning Officer Rose Mary Glackin is likely to make the announcement around 3 a.m.

Once all the results from the 32 local authorities are in, Mary Pitcaithly, Falkirk Counci’s chief executive and Scotland’s Chief Counting Officer for the Referendum, will declare the result at the Royal Highland Centre near Edinburgh.
