Little Grant Smith joined thousands cheering soldiers from The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders who proudly marched through Falkirk.

However, the youngster’s smiles and waves were all for his daddy, Corporal Christopher Smith, who was on parade in his home town.

The pair, along with 20-month-old Grant’s mum, Emma Allison, were reunited after last Thursday’s event to join other members of the regiment and their families at a reception hosted by Provost Pat Reid in Falkirk Town Hall.

The parade was The Argylls, who as part of The Royal Regiment of Scotland are known as 5 SCOTS, way of thanking the people of one of its traditional recruiting areas for all the support they have received, particularly during tours of Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, Kosova and Northern Ireland.

Later this month the battalion will become Balaklava Company, with around 100 soldiers who will mainly conduct state ceremonial and public duties across Scotland.
