Old Parish

Last Sunday it was a typical summer’s day matched with a strong congregation who enjoyed singing the well known hymns with gusto. The church was full of smiles, laughter and good spirit. A further appeal was made for helpers for the Girls’ Brigade even if you could only manage once a month your help would be gratefully received. Alison Hastie announced that the popular Christmas concert will be held on Sunday, December 7 with the support and the participation of local schools. On Sunday, morning service will be conducted by our Locum Minster Rev. David Wandrum at 11 a.m. Choir practice at 9.45a.m. Prayer Meeting in the Vestry at 10.30 a.m. Youth Church meets in the Church at 11 a.m. Creche in the Fellowship Room at 11 a.m. On duty are L Moore and J Park. Duty for Readings L Farquhar and Prayer J Lewis. The Church Choir resumed midweek rehearsals on Tuesday this week, from 1-2.30 p.m. in the small church hall. New members are always very welcome to come along. We shall be preparing a short chorus from ‘Messiah’ by Handel, to perform (with orchestra) at our winter concert and also Howard Goodall’s lovely setting of ‘Love divine, all loves excelling’ It would be wonderful to boost our choir numbers for this, and we’d like to extend an invitation to other local churches and organisations, to come and join us. Spread the word! Contact Alison for details of rehearsals (not always Tuesdays) on 07885 302 895. Preliminary planning is under way for the ‘Sound of Christmas 2014’ fundraising concert on December 7, 3 p.m. It shall follow a similar format to last year’s successful event.
