The first meeting of the 2014/15 session was held in Polmont Church Hall on Monday, September 15. President Isobel Shaw welcomed old and new members and after business she introduced our speaker for the evening Catherine Forrest a card-maker/crafter, who demonstrated the latest in card-making equipment and how she made her beautiful cards. The members then had the chance to make their own cards which was great fun. The vote of thanks was then given by Isobel Shaw. Old Parish

Last sunday we gave the Boys’ and Girls’ brigades a warm and friendly welcome to the church. Rev. David Wardrum conducted the service and we all admired the new tapestry which the girls had prepared and was drapped from the pulpit. Good news was conveyed to the congregation in that with all the efforts last Saturday over £1000 had been raised for the Macmillan cancer fund. Grateful thanks to all the helpers, the bakers and the public who supported the event. On Sunday, morning service will be conducted by Rev. David Wandrum at 11 a.m. This will be a Communion Service. Choir practice at 9.45 a.m. Prayer Meeting in the Vestry at 10.30 a.m. Youth Church meets in church at 11 a.m. Creche in the Fellowship Room at 11 a.m. On duty are S Higgins and J Glen. Duty for Readings - Derick Turner and Prayer Ian McLean. The Autumn issue of the Twinspire Magazine is ready. Elders can pick up their copies from the Session House. The History Group has started its new sessions at 7.30 p.m. in the church hall when a warm welcome was given to “old” and new members. The speaker on Tuesday was Ken Hutton about ‘Restoration of Charlotte Dundas’. The Friendship Group met at the Black Bull on Tuesday at 12.30 p.m. where all single people welcome. Circle of Care Calendars: Orders for the 2015 Calendars (cost £4.50) are now being taken. A sample and order sheet is in the vestibule or please speak to Janet Anderson. The Harvest Thanksgiving Service is to take place on Sunday, October 19. This year, in considering the Falkirk Foodbank and the needs it is meeting within our community, we would like an offering to be taken up on that day of Food Stuffs only. All of the food offered on the day will be collected by the Falkirk Foodbank after the service. In the nicest possible way, please may we ask that the food stuffs offered be within their ‘Use By’ date, or else the Food Bank will not be able to distribute them. There will be a Soup & Pudding Harvest Lunch in the Church Hall after the service. All Welcome. We are looking for donations of lentil, leek and potato soup and any kind of pudding. If you can help please speak to Janet Anderson as soon as possible on (01324) 711882 or bill.janet@virgin.net.
