President Norman Black was in the chair for the weekly meeting of Polmont Rotary Club. After dinner, President Norman dealt with some business and invited Rotarian Ian McLean to introduce the speaker for the evening. The speaker, Ian Scott, an Honorary Member of Polmont Rotary, spoke about his time as chair of the Trust. Ian explained that Falkirk Community Trust is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. The Trust was set up by Falkirk Council and began operating on July 1, 2011. The Trust assumed responsibility for the management and operation of a range of community services. Ian told the club that the Trust is a not-for-profit organisation tasked with supporting and delivering community services, while providing equality of opportunity and access for all. Ian outlined the services the Trust delivers on behalf of the community and the Council as: Arts, Heritage, Libraries, Fitness, Sport, Parks and Outdoors. Ian outlined the budget and the savings that the Trust achieves, which amounts to £1.2 million each year. The Trust has responsibility for 84 properties and around 600 staff. Ian was enthusiastic about the future and the work of the Trust and intimated that he had enjoyed his time in the chair. Ian took questions after his interesting talk. The vote of thanks was given by Rotarian Joe Andrews. President Norman closed the meeting with the Rotary Toast.
