Probus Club

Two lives: one lost in World War I, while tending to the wounds of the other in action. That was the engrossing background outlined by Donald Meek at last week’s meeting of Polmont Probus Club, when he described the short life of his great-uncle, a native of Tiree, killed by a sniper when serving with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders on the Somme, and the long and eventful life of his company commander, who survived the hostitities, went on to qualify as a veterinary surgeon, play rugby for Scotland and establish veterinary colleges in Africa. He lived until 1971. The vote of thanks was offered by John McCormack.
