If you are a new mum why not come along to our buggy group. The feedback from the group has been very good, as well as meeting other mums, by being out in the fresh air and getting fitter, mums share information. Your local health visitor is also on hand to deal with any questions or concerns you may have. The group meet every Monday 12.30 p.m. at the car park opposite the Greenbank centre. The walk takes about 40 minutes. After the walk mums go back to the church hall where there is a very well run baby group. Forty-plus members and not one a smoker! That was the rather surprising revelation at last week’s meeting of Polmont Probus Club. It emerged following a question posed by the speaker, Marian Thomson, a fire saftey advocate with the Fire Service of Scotland. Although there are not so many smokers today as in in the past many households have introduced a potential fire hazard with the practice of tea lights (small candles) and other fragrant candles, all dangerous if left unattended. Under no circumstances, she advised, should heavy duty appliances be left on overnight as family members in bed could be overcome by smoke, which is silent and can be deadly. Fire alarms should be installed on all floors, one upstairs and one downstairs but not, incongruously, in kitchens where the house occupants ought to be up and about, thus leaving nothing unattended. She advised members that fire checks, by appointment, are free of charge. Following questions which were ably answered the speaker was thanked on the call of Bill Japp. President Bill Cartner was in the chair.
