Three neighbours in Polmont are partying this week after each of them scooped a small fortune on the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Having the postcode FK2 0HA really paid off for Laura McLean, Robert Speirs and Christine Park who were handed cheques for £33,333 - one third of £100,000 - each from Street Prize presenter Judie McCourt.
First to get a knock on the door was 28-year-old Laura McLean, a process operator for Ineos, who was at home with husband Colin, a computer programmer for investment bank JP Morgan, and their 14-month-old son Logan at the time.
The shrewd couple were over the moon with their win, but won’t be squandering it on lavish extravagances.
Laura said: “It was a big surprise. I’ve been playing for about three years now and had only won £60 before.
“I’m never usually that lucky to win something as big as this and never really expected it. I thought it was a hoax at first. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the cheque. My work colleagues thought I was kidding too.
“We’ve got a son so I think we’ll get the back garden done and save the rest as we’ll maybe be moving home some time in the future.
“Who knows, maybe I’ll win at a new postcode too.”
Mr Speirs (68) said he thought he had only won £333 until the penny dropped that it was actually more than 100 times that measly amount.
He said: “This is just great, absolutely magic. When Judie pulled out the cheque I thought I had won £333 at first and then I realised it was £33,333.”
Christine Park (55) had already booked a holiday to Portugal and is counting down the days until she’s enjoying lazy days on a beach enjoying sun, sea and sangria.
She said: “I’m off to Portugal soon so I now have plenty of spending money to have a fabulous holiday.”
Presenter Judie McCourt said the money will spread a little happiness for the trio.
She said: “I am delighted for Laura, Robert and Christine and really think they should treat themselves to something special.”
The Postcode Lottery is a charity lottery raising money for good causes while players who enter win cash prizes.
To enter the draws players sign up with their postcodes and one is drawn each month for a £100,000 prize. If you are the only person in that postcode area who plays you’ll win the entire amount.
