A local man reported missing on Sunday may have been lying dead in his car for days despite the accident being reported to police.

Police searching for John Yuill (28) and Lamara Bell (25), last seen at Loch Earn on Sunday, were called to the M9 near junction 9 this morning.

The male driver of the Renault Clio off the southbound carriageway was found to be dead and his female passenger was in a critical condition. She was taken to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

Assistant Chief Constable Kate Thomson later revealed that a call about the incident had been made to police late on Sunday morning but was never followed up. The reasons for this are currently being investigated.

ACC Thomson added: “Officers have notified the families of this update. Our thoughts are with both families at this difficult time.

“A full investigation is currently under way to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”
