What a week to take the wheel!

Iam the new Area Commander for Falkirk, having taken over from Chief Inspector Mandy Paterson last Monday.

My previous role at Falkirk was leading the service delivery teams, managing operational planning, working within preventions and interventions activity and having responsibility for both firearms and liquor licensing.

I’m keen to continue the good work of my predecessor which includes updating the Falkirk community via this weekly column.

And what a week it was to start – the difficult weather, driving conditions and M876/M9 travel difficulties have provided real challenges on daily commutes.

I’ve been heartened, however, by the attitude of many drivers – slowing down in difficult driving conditions, providing space between vehicles to assist in safe stopping distances and being courteous when drivers unfamiliar with the volume of traffic on our roads need to change lanes.

We’re going to experience more rain and gales in the next few days; our advice is to prepare for winter conditions, take extra care when travelling and, in times of extreme conditions, consider alternative travel plans.
