Text of the Week

‘‘Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature’’ (Romans 13:14).

I was the father of a New Year’s Day baby in Ayrshire in 1972. Who did she look like?

At the birth of a baby, people will frequently say which parent the infant looks like.

It is expected that the baby will have a resemblance to the parents, because it carries the genes of both father and mother.

In similar fashion, the apostle Paul says that anyone who says they are a Christian will have a resemblance to Christ – not physical but spiritual – because they are part of God’s family.

Do you observe any resemblance to Him in your life? To help you know what He is like, read the four Gospels at the start of the new year and my prayer is that you, too, will discover what Jesus is like and that He can be your Saviour.

The impact of reading verses 13 and 14 caused Augustine to become a follower of Christ.

We all have a sinful nature and the Holy Spirit through Paul says the Christian must not even think about gratifying its desires, to resemble Christ.
