Mistletoe and Whine

Ho Ho Ho!
Ho Ho Ho!

The search is over, the people of Scotland have spoken and chosen their favourite Christmas song of all time. And the winner is...Sir Cliff Richard’s ‘Mistletoe and Wine’.

The rest of the UK favoured Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ and Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ to name but a few.

All classics I’m sure you’ll agree, and we’ve not had anything quite like them since, have we?

It’s something that can be quite tricky to master, although when you look at what’s on offer each year, it isn’t hard to see why we can’t seem to nail the perfect seasonal song.

Take this year’s contenders for example. We have Simon Cowell’s X Factor lot who will be covering Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’ – the less said about that the better – the John Lewis ad and bet you didn’t expect this, the Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, movie theme.

It’s come to be a bit of a tradition for the X Factor winner to snag the top spot but, as this Christmas is officially being taken over by the release of Star Wars, fans are hoping to get the iconic soundtrack to number one.

The campaign is backed by Jon Morter, the mastermind behind Rage Against The Machine’s 2009’s anti-X Factor number one.

May the festive force be with you...
