I’m a big fan of new technology, even if it can make my life a bit of a headache at times.
Back in the day, all you had to worry about as the editor of a newspaper was filling your pages with stories that would grab people’s attention.
Nowadays, however, you’ve got to consider websites, video, social media ... the list goes on an on.
It’s the same when a reporter goes out on a big story. Before the first words appear in print, the chances are it will have featured on our website, Facebook and Twitter.
Once it’s in the public arena, the comments start to flow in and quite often when the article appears in the newspaper its more about the reaction rather than the event that precipitated it.
A lot to think about when you’ve been used to heading out armed with just a notebook and pen!
