I freely admit that, when I moved to Dunipace more than 10 years ago, it was little more than a convenient place to stay.
Centrally situated, it was close enough to work to make the morning commute bearable and also offered great motorway links to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
True, Denny town centre wasn’t particularly attractive but I didn’t envisage spending much time there anyway.
Over the years, however, my links with the area have grown ever stronger – especially since Calum started nursery – and I’ve taken to shopping in the area more and more.
But nothing has made me as proud of my new home town as Saturday’s children’s gala.
The whole area was buzzing on the morning of the event and the newly revamped ‘Gala Park’ was awash with people enjoying themselves.
And it seemed as if every few steps we took we bumped into someone else we knew, also full of praise for how well the day had gone.
True the weather helped, but all those who gave up their time to organise the first gala in 14 years deserve immense praise for getting it off the ground again.
I’m already looking forward to next year ... and our new town centre of course!
