A raft of birthdays come at once

Well, that’s my Christmas list started and there’s still more than a month to go until the big day.

That’s probably the first time I’ve been able to say that since my son Calum was born six years ago.

Hes celebrates his birthday on October 21 so we don’t even start thinking about the festive season until that’s past and, before we know it, November has been and gone.

I have even more sympathy with my brother and his wife on this one. Their son turns 10 next week and their daughter’s seventh birthday is between Christmas and New Year. How do they cope with that?

All these presents to buy all at once and then nothing for the best part of 11 months. Okay, there are their own birthdays but, as every parent knows, you drop way down the pecking order when you have children.

So much so that I’m convinced one day I’ll wake
up and suddenly remember my birthday was the day before!
