Fans at Falkirk FC’s old Brockville Park saw their fair share of bruising encounters during its history and former railwayman John Munro remembers one famous battle.
John provided first aid cover at the ground and during a match between the Bairns and Celtic in the 1970s was almost thrown out for his concern for a player who was injured.
He said: “Two players, Dougie Somner of Falkirk and the famous Danny McGrain of Celtic jumped for the ball and had a dreadful coming together. Trainers attended to both players and the game resumed although it was clear to us that McGrain was badly hurt, later diagnosed as fracture base of skull.
“We were shouting at Celtic trainer Neilly Mochan, a local man from Camelon, to get him off the park, perhaps too vocally, and we were told by a police Inspector to sit down or we would be removed from the park.”
