National success just keeps on coming

On a wet and windy March 7, 18 boys from six local companies competed in the 2015 Scottish BB Cross Country Championship at the Police College, Tulliallan.

So heavy had the rain been that, after inspection, a section of the course was deemed unsafe and the course shortened, much to the delight of the boys! With “going soft” the juniors all completed the course and were third overall, as were the seniors; the intermediates narrowly missing out on parity with a fourth place. Convenor Brian Allan thanks all who took part or contributed in any way.

1st Grangemouth (Abbotsgrange Church) continued their progress in the national BB table tennis competition by defeating Moniefieth 7:2 and moving on to the Scottish final to be held in Greenock soon.

2nd Polmont (Old Parish) won through at the recent Scottish Final of the BB Masterteam Quiz and will now progress to the UK Final to be held at Kirkham near Blackpool. Well done everyone in acquitting themselves so well and keeping the battalion traditions in the forefront of The Boys’ Brigade nationally.

Locally, the battalion swimming gala took place in Grangemouth on February 28 with the usual good numbers taking part. The company section trophy was won by the team from 1st Polmont (Brightons Church) with john Gardiner, also from that company, winning the Westquarter Trophy. The Junior Section event had a particularly large entry from 12 companies. 1st Haggs (Haggs Church) eventually finished ahead at the end of an enjoyable evening.

With the premier Battalion drill competition, along with first aid and sports all still to come, companies again also start to venture outdoors, so there is much still going on and to look forward to as the better weather now beckons.
