A missing dog at the centre of a huge Facebook campaign has been found safe and well.

Rocco the springer spaniel ran away from his owners during a walk in the Lionthorn area of Falkirk last Thursday. The family of the two-year-old pet launched a huge campaign to trace him, starting a Facebook page for people to leave possible sightings of him and putting up posters throughout the Falkirk and Braes area.

In just one week over 1200 people ‘liked’ Rocco’s page with dozens joining organised searches throughout the district for the much-loved family pet.

After several sighting in the Shieldhill area, Rocco was found today in a manhole near Glen Village. Firefighters used a ladder to get him out. He was taken to the vet to be looked over but is in good health after almost a week on his own.

Owner Lesley Howarth said: “We are so happy to have our boy home.”
