Community Council

Due to illness, Maddiston Community Council’s meeting tonight is cancelled.

History Group

The next meeting of Maddiston & Rumford Local History Group will be Monday (March 9) from 1 p.m. till around 3 p.m. It is with sad heart that we note the passing of one of our most stalwart members, Lucy Hynds, who passed peacefully in Newcarron Court last Wednesday. Lucy was born in the Carronview (The Blocks) and then the family moved to Viewfield Cottage, she married David Leask and had her three sons there before being the first tenant of 4 Cairnymount Avenue. As the family grew they moved round the corner to Lawson Place then after David died she moved to Westquarter. It was at a meeting of the local history group where she met (and eventually married) John Hynds who at one time lived in the same block at Carronview and attended Maddiston School just as she did - and in the same class. Lucy will be greatly missed by all those who knew her, as a member of Maddiston Salvation Army Corps, for all of her 91 years, as a neighbour who had time for everyone - and as a member of the history group. The first three pavers with the names of those who died in World War I that we intend to display at the new war memorial have arrived and will be on display at the meeting, and once the group agrees to it we will order more (as we can afford it) until we have all the names of all those from Maddiston and Rumford who died in that conflict at the memorial.
