The annual campaign to make sure Falkirk is a safe and friendly place to shop and celebrate this Christmas is underway.

Police Scotland local area commander Chief Inspector Alan Waddell has promised a high profile presence will target crime, anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related incidents.

Working with Falkirk Council, traders and licensees, officers will make regular checks of shopping areas, pubs and clubs to encourage everyone to behave.

Bar staff have been warned not to serve anyone who looks as if they have probably already had too much and report any criminal activity on their premises immediately.

Police are also urging people to be aware of their surroundings while out shopping or partying and keep their cash and cards safely in an inside pocket or handbag to discourage pickpockets.

Chief Inspector Waddell said: “We want everyone to enjoy this time of year safely and taking these simple steps will help make sure that happens.”
