A businessman fled the clutches of thieves who attacked him, stole his van and then abducted him in the Braes.

The incident happened on Friday, January 24 between 10 - 11 p.m. on the Shieldhill to Slamannan road. The 33-year-old victim, who owns a business in the area, had his silver VW Caddy van stolen after being assaulted. Police have revealed new information that the man was abducted by the gang for a short period before breaking free and flagging down a passing car.

Police are keen to speak to the middle-aged couple who drove him to safety in the car, thought to be a four-door saloon which had two young passengers in the back, and anyone else who may have been on the same road that night.

The victim’s van was also seen in Shieldhill and the Baillieston area of Glasgow area that evening.

Detective Inspector Kevin Carr said: “I am appealing for the occupants of the car to come forward. They stopped for a distressed man on a stretch of road between Shieldhill and Slamannan, and drove him to safety in Shieldhill.

“While this is being treated as an abduction, it was an isolated incident and specifically directed at the victim and at no time was there any danger to anyone else.”

Police would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen a white 4x4 vehicle that parked up on the Slamannan to Shieldhill on January 24.

DI Carr added: “I would like to thank the members of the public who have already provided information which has assisted us investigate the incident.”

Anyone with any information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
