Making a Difference: The Milk Barn has got it licked

The Milk Barn has enjoyed a hugely successful first year in business since it opened in May last year.

The artisan ice cream parlour serves up a wide variety of homemade flavours that are all produced on the premises - which just happens to be a working dairy farm in The Glen Village, complete with stunning views of the rolling Stirlingshire hills.

Run by husband-and-wife team Alistair and Suzannah Reid, the business has grown rapidly in the short time it’s been open and is now expanding to meet growing demand. This success was part helped by the glorious summer weather of last year, but more importantly was their ability to sell a delicious product that appealed to young and old customers alike.

“We opened on May 31, and we were soon absolutely mobbed by customers,” said Suzannah.

“To begin with, we regularly struggled to meet demand because we were so busy.”

The Milk Barn now employs 15 members of staff, three of them full-time, to ensure that all its customers have a great experience when they visit Glen Farm.

And with unique ice cream flavours including sticky toffee pudding, jaffa cake, toffee crisp and bubblegum smurf available, it’s no wonder customers are returning time and time again.

The Milk Barn has now opened a brand new takeaway counter to cater for its increasing number of visitors, and, if you’re feeling peckish, it also serves a range of savoury meals including homemade soups and stovies.

There’s also an indoor and outdoor play area to keep kids entertained as well The Milk Barn mascot Glenda - a fibreglass cow that can be milked.

Making a Difference is the theme of this year’s Local Newspaper Week, running from May 12-18
