An idea to mark the Glasgow Commonwealth Games coming to Scotland in 2014, has grown into a school-wide project, involving all pupils and dozens of sports stars at Larbert High.
Head boy Fraser Johnston came up with the Captains’ Challenge, inviting sportsmen and women to the school to inspire students and tied it in with urging them to take up sport or community work.
Fraser (S6) worked with the other school captain and nine house captains to get the scheme off the ground, and, since launching in January, they have had Commonwealth Games medal winners including Steve Frew, Mimi Anderson and Lachie Stewart visit and last month Olympian Sir Chris Hoy talked to 200 delighted pupils.
Making a Difference is the theme of this year’s Local Newspaper Week, running from May 12-18
