Excitement is building for this year’s Kincardine Children’s Gala with the launch just two months away.

The committee is busy putting the finishing touches to the event, which includes an entire week of games, fun, dancing and competition.

And the highlight – Gala Day iself on Saturday, June 28 – is taking place a week later than usual this year to tie in with end of the school term.

Apart from the timing change, the organisers are promising a traditional event which has proven so popular since 1977.

Gala vice-secretary Paula Boyle said: “Everyone is really looking forward to it and we want to have as much of the community involved as we can.

“We are all keeping our fingers crossed for good weather.”

“In the past we have found that, if the weather has been poor on gala day, it’s lovely the weekend afterwards, so hopefully we’ll have a good day!”

Gala week starts on June 21 with a community dance followed by the pet show and races on June 22.

Between Monday and Friday, the children and young people of the village will battle it out on the sporting fields with football and hockey tournaments.

Adults will be able to join in the fun on June 27 with fancy dress competitions and wheelbarrow races.

Paula added: “It is a children event, but the adults have got to have some fun too.”

Gala Day will begin with the procession moving off from The Shore Green at 12.15 p.m.

Then at 1 p.m. in Burnside Park at 1 p.m. Gwen Gardner will crown Queen Elect Taylor Fawcett.

Fairground rides, stalls, music and entertainment will keep the party going throughout the afternoon.

Confirmed centre-of-the-park attractions include 1st Tulliallan Boys’ Brigade Band, Tulliallan Pipes and Drums, Lorraine Taggart School of Dance and JHM Dance School.
