Four people had to flee their homes following a fire in a flat in Falkirk’s Grahams Road.

Police closed the road off for two hours after the blaze broke out in the flat near The Colonial pub at around 7.13 p.m. last night.

Two fire appliances originally attended but more were called out due to the amount of smoke bellowing out of the property.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “Two appliances were dispatched, one from Falkirk fire station and one from Larbert fire station. On arrival watch manager John Kitt increased the number of appliances to four due to large volumes of smoke affecting the attached properties.

“Fire crews were deployed wearing breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire using a hose reel. Four people were evacuated from the adjacent properties due to smoke travel.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
