Youths charged with Avonbridge copper thefts

Three youths have been charged with stealing £8000 worth of copper from a newly-built house in a Braes village.

The theft happened in April, but police believe the trio also stole £80 in coins from a pool table following a break-in at Avonbridge Community Centre in late June.

Officers were also alerted to three young males seen acting suspiciously within the Stevensons Haulage yard in mid-July, but they had fled by the time police arrived on the scene.

The youths were arrested and charged with two counts of housebreaking and with intent to steal from the haulage yard.

PC Derek Wallace said: “All three crimes were thoroughly investigated by police resulting in three male youths being traced and charged.

“I’d like to thank the public as the crimes would not have been detected without the assistance of the local community. The three youths are now subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.”
