Wedding bells ready to sound for Herald winners
Excited bride-to-be Rebecca Fyfe is counting down the days until she is transformed into a wedding belle.
Two years ago she and fiancé John Morton were stunned to learn they had won a dream day, courtesy of The Three Kings, to have their marriage ceremony and reception in the popular Shieldhill location.
The fabulous prize had been offered by owner David Cattanach to mark a decade of running the venue.
Now with just days to go until the wedding, the couple, both 26, said they can’t wait for October 27 to arrive.
Rebecca said: “It’s been really busy in the last few months as we’ve finally got our own flat in Falkirk and have been moving in.
“But thanks to everyone at The Three Kings, I feel that I’ve not had to do a thing to organise the wedding. It’s been almost stress free as they’ve done it all.
“I can’t thank them enough for all their help. We still sometimes can’t believe that we’ve been lucky enough to win this prize.”
When Mr Cattanach offered the prize in 2010, it was valued at £6000 and promises student Rebecca, of Bonnybridge, and music teacher John, from Stoneywood, a fabulous day. Everything from bridal cars to a slap-up meal for 80 guests, champagne toasts to evening entertainment, all have been taken care of by the Cattanach family.
Already this year The Three Kings has played host to over 150 weddings and although he said everyone is special, Mr Cattanach admits that after getting to know the young couple over the last two years, this one will have extra significance – not least that he is picking up the bill!
He said: “We’re a family-run business – I’m involved with every wedding, as are my daughter Paula and son James, and we believe in making it a very memorable day for families.
“We only do one wedding each day, despite the fact that you can’t get a Saturday date here until 2015, as we want every couple to know they are getting our undivided attention.”
Their wedding also marks five years to the day since John first asked Rebecca out, although the couple had known each other since they were at Denny High.
She will be given away by step-dad Billy Martin, while twin sister Lisa-Marie, who nominated the couple for the contest, will be a bridesmaid, along with John’s sister Emily (21). There will be two best men, James McGeachie and Graeme Norris, both of Denny, who are best friends of the groom.
Although details of her dream dress are being kept under wraps until the big day, Rebecca did admit she knew it was perfect the moment she slipped it on – “it made me feel like a princess”.
