Tanker drivers’ vote results due tomorrow

Fuel tanker drivers have moved closer to a possible work-to-rule in a row over safety and minimum pay.

Ahead of the result of a two-week consultative ballot involving BP and Norbert Dentressangle drivers in Grangemouth being announced tomorrow, colleagues at seven haulage companies in England have opted to ignore the threat of legal action by voting once again to take industrial action short of an all-out strike.

Diana Holland, Unite assistant general secretary, said: “The vote in favour of action short of a strike demonstrates that deep concerns still remain in an increasingly insecure and unstable industry.

“Tanker drivers face a daily race to the bottom where contracts are chopped and changed.

“It is in everyone’s interest to bring order to the chaos gripping a vital industry through the introduction of industry wide minimum standards.”
