For most of us, the mere thought of climbing Ben Nevis is exhausting ... but two men are tackling it six times in six days.

And once their marathon task is completed they will have almost scaled the equivalent height of Mount Everest.

Ric Glynne-Owen came up with the idea after wondering how many trips up Britain’s biggest mountain would be equal to the world’s highest summit.

The ‘Neverest’ challenge was the result and will see him and Ross Duffie climb the 4400 ft. Munro on Monday and again every day until Saturday to raise money for the charity founded by his wife.

The 35-year-old outdoor enthusiast from Shieldhill said he can’t wait to get started.

“I have climbed Ben Nevis a few times – I’ve done about 40 Munros altogether – and walked the West Highland Way twice but this is by far the biggest challenge I’ve ever taken on.”

Ric, who served in the RAF until 2007, will be fundraising for Speur-Ghlan, the charity set up by his wife Ruth, an autism specialist who promotes early intervention in children with development issues.

Speur-Ghlan, Gaelic for blue skies, works with youngsters aged one-five to support them through autism and development problems.

Ric, who works for housing support charity Cyreians, continued: “The charity gets no help from the government so we need to fundraise to keep it going and I thought ‘Neverest’ was a unique way of doing this.

“When Ross, whose son goes to sessions at Speur-Ghlan, heard about it he decided to join me and it’s snowballed from there.

‘‘We want to get a great total to help the charity continue the important work it does.”

You can donate to the appeal via JustTextGiving by texting SGE101 and an amount (£1, £5, £10) to 70070.
