Opponents win fight to get rid of Bonnybridge bumps

SPEED bumps put down as part of a £250,000 road safety project are to be removed.

The traffic calming measures were created less than seven years ago in

response to concerns from the local community about safety on Larbert Road, Bonnybridge.

The street is one of the main roads through the village and one drivers

were prone to speed on. The humps initially encouraged drivers to slow down but, after many were damaged and removed, motorists now drive down the centre of the road.

The quarter of a million pound project which saw the introduction of the

speed bumps also saw street lighting and footpaths improved.

The humps cost 20,000 to install and it is estimated it will cost 5000

from the council's roads and safety budget to remove them.
